I *heart* Leo

Look at all the colours!

Look at all the colours!

Leo is my mail delivery guy.  Leo drives an old blue van with a post office sign on the top and mutters a bit about getting in and out of it to bring packages to my door (yay rural mail delivery!).  I’m sure Leo must think that I’m running some sort of secret and evil yarn-ball experiments in my basement, but so far he hasn’t said anything.

<— See what he brought me?  Sixteen different colours of sock-weight 100% wool.  Yum yum.  2009 will be The Year I Learn To Do Stranded Colour Knitting Without Sobbing, so this is good good good.  I even have a pattern picked out (well, several, actually).  Check out Jorid’s Knit Pattern Shop — I have “A Bird in the Hand”, the “Cat Mittens and Cat Hat” and the “Frog Mittens” all waiting patiently on my computer desktop for my attention.  I have a few projects to get off the needles before I begin any of them, but I’m looking forward to using some of my new yarn on Jorid’s beautiful mittens (will have to check first if this yarn is appropriate, too, of course).

I have *tried* to do colourwork knitting years ago, but it came out all tight and wrinkled and just unfeasible.  I will try to relax about it this time.  After all, it’s just knitting, same as the socks and lace and cables I do.  :)

Happy New Year to everyone — may it be peaceful, healthy and prosperous for you all!

Would you please post a photo of the cat mittens and cat hat when you’re finished making them?

Should the mittens and hat come out anything like worthy of photographing, I most certainly will! There is much on my knitting plate at the moment, though, so it may be a while.

Stranded knitting is fun, and I’ve seen those patterns – yum. Just stretch out the knitting when you strand it to be sure the strand is long enough; a little loose is better than too tight, and blockable wool takes care of it.
