Thanks, Robin. The cable came from a Barbara Walker book, and the rest was just knit-as-you-go. Should Elisabeth kindly offer me more yarn, I will make another hat and keep notes, so I can share the pattern. Someone of your knitterly skill can probably wing this one, anyhow -- dk yarn, a temporary cast on, a cable pattern that's about 4" wide, knit for approximately 20 inches, then grafted together into a circle. I picked up 61 stitches around the top of the circle and knit through the back of the loop for twisted stitches, which I liked the look of. I decreased down to 5 stitches over the course of about 3.5" of knitting: decrease 1 st, k 1 st, dec 1 st at every "corner" -- I was using four dpns to knit on. Pulled the yarn through the last 5 sts, and voila.

I like your self portrait! How clever of you to paint the eyes!! I'm also impressed at your knitting skills. I don't have the patience to knit or crochet. I'm impressed by people who do!

Gorgeous hat, Nicole! Amelia is a GREAT model, though a bit aloof. Maybe she is just shy?? Did you see my comment that we have very similar hair?
