Catching Up

Seems like ages since I’ve written here.  It’s been a busy time of appointments and classes all to do with Frank’s new diagnosis of diabetes.  Life is settling back to normal again (the new normal), though, and I’ve found the time for some knitting-pattern writing and some painting. The half-a-sock on the left is something [...]

One in, one out

“Four Trees” is a painting I finished this morning, inspired by the stormy skies we’ve been having the last couple of days. I know that objects “should” be grouped in odd numbers, but I wanted to try an even numbered group, just because.  It’s my painting and I can do what I want.  Phhht. “Red [...]

To brighten a dull day

It’s been a rainy, thundery couple of days with dim light and lots of greys.  Yesterday in painting class I started this picture, and I finished it this morning.  I do like those hot colours against the cool blues! (This painting is for sale — click here.)

Garbage

This afternoon Frank and I went to an abandoned feed and farm supply place near here so that he could take some photos of one of his favourite subjects, rusty old junk.  There’s plenty of rusty old junk at this place, and I’m sure a photo or two will turn up on his blog in [...]

A Pint of Pickled Peppers

Another small painting (5″ x 7″), and still on a peppers theme.  This time I was intrigued by the subdued colours of the peppers, and the reflections in the glass…. (It’s for sale — click here.)

Trying out open acrylics

Yesterday I had the opportunity to try Golden’s Open Acrylic paint for the first time.  I’d been curious about it since I first heard about it last year.  My painting teacher, Cheryl Chartier, held a six-hour workshop to introduce us to the paints.  We were able to try them out and decide whether or not [...]

Mississippi Painting, Phase 2

In last Friday’s painting class I worked some more on my mostly-knife painting of the Mississippi River near Carleton Place.  As you can see (if you compare it to the first picture of it in a previous entry), most of what I did was in the trees at the back.  Slowly but surely, it’s moving [...]

Self Portrait with Blue Hair

This is a digital painting I did, playing around with colours and skin tones.  In Friday’s painting class we were doing a portrait that emphasized natural skin tones, and I wanted to see what I could do with some not-so-natural tones.  It’s turned out not too bad — I think the negative space on the [...]

What to do when it’s snowing… a lot….

This is how it looks from the kitchen today, and we’re expecting up to 25 or 30 cm (about 10 or 12 inches) by late tonight. I did my grocery shopping yesterday and don’t have to drive anywhere today, so I’m quite pleased with the weather.  It’s pretty to look at, and makes me feel [...]
